The Atlas Anamorphic Prime Lens A Set and B Set with 2X front anamorphic design are now available at MPS Studios! At the heart of Atlas Lens Co. Orion Series is a true Front Anamorphic Group. Orion Series lenses deliver the striking beauty of painterly waterfall bokeh, disproportionate breathing, and signature but controlled flare. These optical characteristics are now available as part of your cinematic storytelling toolkit with a mechanical functionality that won’t leave you feeling confounded by compromise.

Atlas Anamorphic (aka Atlas Orion Anamorphic) lenses are built to be a universal filmmaking tool – ready for the latest Digital Cinema PL mount cameras like ARRI ALEXA Mini, and are even designed to accommodate the rotating mirror shutter of 35mm Motion Picture Film Cameras following ARRI PL Flange requirements. Whether your project requires you to shoot digital or film, the 65mm T2 has the coverage you need and boasts a larger than S35mm Image Circle. (Alexa Open Gate full height Coverage). Combined with the Atlas Extender, the Atlas Anamorphic lenses can also cover full-frame sensors like the ALEXA MINI LF.

Focus has a deep 270° travel rotation. Cine pitch 0.8 mod gearing on both iris and Focus ring are spaced to allow simultaneous drive control, even when two motors are mounted on the same side of the lens.

Put simply, anamorphic lenses optically squeeze the image horizontally onto your recording medium to give you a wider field of view. The Atlas Orion Anamorphic Primes offer a cost-effective way to shoot anamorphic – generating an oval bokeh and controllable lens flares.

Why is Cinemascope Anamorphic shooting so special? It’s often difficult to put into words the feeling we are left with when watching something shot using Anamorphic lenses. One particularly unique feature of a true front Anamorphic Lens is that for a given focal length, you have the same vertical field of view as that of a spherical lens of the same focal length, but with twice the horizontal field of view (2X). In the example of a 65mm 2x Anamorphic Lens, you would have a 65mm vertical FOV with 32.5mm equivalent horizontal FOV.

In effect, you can capture a wide-angle image with the inherent shallow Depth of Field qualities of a telephoto prime lens. This optical property creates a unique sense of perspective magnification which generates depth in your images — at times feeling more epic than real life as we experience it!

Utilizing a sensor optimized for Anamorphic shooting (4:3 mode, Full Aperture 17.8mm sensor height) you can unlock the full Imaging potential of the Atlas Atlas Orion Anamorphic Lenses.

Atlas Anamorphic Rental Atlas Orion Anamorphic Rental has never been easier! Contact MPS Studios Dallas or Austin offices to book them for your next project!

COOKE PANCHRO/i CLASSICS

All 12 focal lengths now available at MPS Studios: 18, 21, 25, 27, 32, 40, 50, 65mm macro, 75, 100, 135, 152mm.

The growing demand for vintage Cooke Speed Panchro lenses from the 1920s to 1960s prompted the introduction of a modern redesign of the vintage classic: the Cooke Panchro/i Classic, T2.2 to T3.2 Prime lenses.

The new Cooke Panchro/i, that is true to the original look of the now legendary Speed Panchro, recreates the same look and feel of the original with the advantage of modern glass mounted for today’s cameras. And, the new lenses come equipped with /i Technology for frame by frame digital information capture, as do all modern Cooke cine lenses for film and digital capture.

The original Cooke Speed Panchro, designed by Horace W. Lee in the 1920s, was a cine prime lens that chromatically enhanced an image when filming under restricted illumination. Cooke Speed Panchros combined a relative aperture as wide as f2.0 with an angular field of view and definition previously impossible with much smaller apertures. They quickly gained a worldwide reputation for quality cinema production and were widely used throughout the 20th century.

The coveted Cooke Look, defined by Cooke as “sharp, subtle, smooth rendering that provides dimensionality, high contrast, and pleases the eye” that produces “warm and natural visuals”.

The Cooke Panchro/i Classics feature:

The same coveted Cooke Look aesthetic as the now legendary Cooke Speed Panchro

An adapted and upgraded design of the vintage classic featuring modern glass

Equipped with /i Technology for frame by frame digital information capture

Cooke’s /I Technology, enabling cameras to automatically record key lens data for every frame shot, allowing post-production teams to access it digitally

Precision PL Mount with /i Technology Electrical Contacts

Quality and consistency that Cooke is known for

Soft, subtle flairs even when pointing directly at a light source

Warm color palette

The Cooke Panchro/i Classics are color matched to most Cooke lenses – our Cooke S7’s, Cooke Anamorphic Primes, Cooke S4’s, and Cooke Mini S4’s.

Cooke’s /i Technology enables cameras to automatically record key lens data for every frame shot, allowing post-production teams to access it digitally. Featuring key information on lens setting, focusing distance, aperture and depth-of-field, hyperfocal distance, serial number and more, it streamlines production and post and saves time and cost to eliminate guesswork. AC loves this technology in combination with remote follow focus systems.

Ergonomically designed to have smooth and accurate travel – whilst utilising precision mechanics to provide a consistent feel in operation through the entire focus movement.

All Panchro/I Classic series Primes have standardised 0.8 MOD focus and Iris drive gears. All lenses in the series also feature a fixed common front diameter of 110mm.

The Panchro/I Classic series of prime lenses feature a nine-leaf linear module iris assembly. Providing an aperture range of T2.2-T22.

All lenses have factory calibrated focus scales with clearly identifiable distance marks.

Durable and Hard wearing surface finish to meet the needs of the most demanding environmental conditions.

Cinematographer Joe Anderson (Old Man and A Gun, supported in part by MPS Studios) chose the Cooke Look for his latest project, Top Boy, for Netflix. He told Cooke Optics that he was especially drawn the characters in the foliage that the Cooke S7’s produced.

ZEISS SUPER SPEEDS

Zeiss first introduced the Super Speeds following the success of their Standard Speed Primes. In their own right, the Zeiss Super Speeds have become a staple for filmmaking for over 40 decades. Known for their high contrast and cool image rendition, the Zeiss Super Speeds produce a vintage, softly muted image.

Every lens is 80mm front element, and weighs less than 3 lbs. Their compact, lightweight design makes them ideal for handheld use, car shots, and Movi work, while their speed (an impressive T1.3) keeps them as a favorite for DP’s across the globe.

Canon L lenses are top quality pieces throughout the line. They typically have wide apertures (fixed throughout the zoom range for most L zoom lenses). Canon L lenses share a rugged build quality. The build quality combined with wide minimum apertures usually result in Canon L lenses being heavy.

The image quality of the Canon L lenses is generally as good as it gets. Contrast, sharpness, color, bokeh (background/foreground blur quality), flare, CA (Chromatic Aberration) ... All are excellent. Full Frame camera body owners will especially find L series lenses to be (on average) significantly sharper toward the edges of the frame compared to lesser lenses.

Zeiss Standard Speeds, industry workhorses for years, have been used on some of the best looking feature films of the last 40 years. Small size, good sharpness and contrast, and a large selection of focal lengths have kept these lenses relevant even today, adding a filmic quality to digital cameras. They are often used as a slightly less sharp and less contrasty alternative to modern lenses.

Available Focal Lengths: 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm, 180mm

Available Focal Lengths: 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 75mm, 100mm, and 135mm

COOKE MINI S4s

The Cooke miniS4/i Primes (T2.8 to T22 aperture) incorporate everything that today’s filmmakers ask for: smaller, lighter-weight lenses that offer the same resolution, optical quality and reliability as the S4/i lenses at T2.8 speed. With the speed of the new digital cameras, T2.8 is the new, economical T2.0. The Mini S4/i’s are interchangeable with the S4/i and 5/i lenses for shooting film and digital images up to and beyond a 4K resolution. Current Mini S4/i focal lengths are 18, 25, 32, 40, 50, 65, 75, 100 and 135mm

All of the Cooke miniS4/i Prime lenses are supplied with /i Technology, and are designed for all PL mounted professional motion picture film and electronic cameras. The /i Technology provides cinematographers and camera operators with vital information on lens setting, focusing distance, aperture and depth-of-field, hyperfocal distance, serial number, owner data, lens type and focal length in both metric and footage measurements. For zoom lenses, the zoom position is displayed.
