X-Tuned

“X” for expressive—designed to create dreamy, near-ethereal images with exaggerated halation, the X-Tuned primes have selectively uncoated edges that reduce contrast in harder lighting conditions. Slight spherical aberration and focal plane curvature increase the perception of shallower depth of field.

T-Tuned

Transient T-Tuned lenses feature noticeable contrast roll-off, heightened edge halation, and vibrant flaring produced by vintage-style, single coated optics. The 10 T-Tuned primes lenses are available singly and in a 6-lens set of 27, 37, 47, 57, 77, and 107mm lenses that can be expanded with a longer 137mm prime and wider 17, 20.7, and 23.7mm lenses. Each is tuned with a high level of light reactivity and exaggerated contrast roll-off that extends to the edge of the frame, creating a slightly softer, artistic look.

TRIBE7 BLACKWING7 PRIMES FULL FRAME lenses have been designed specifically for large format motion picture imaging, offering contemporary filmmakers an entirely new range of optimized optics for their creative storytelling needs.

The unique imaging properties of the BLACKWING7 optics are a result of carefully controlled distortion during the development and manufacturing processes. This modular distortion allows for a high degree of tuneability over key parameters that shape the lenses’ creative characteristics.

The lens range consists of eight core focal lengths, with three additional focal lengths currently in development. Each focal length is offered with three tuning options, which can be configured at the time of manufacture.

With TRIBE7 BLACKWING7 PRIMES FULL FRAME lens tuning, parameters such as sharpness, contrast, roll-off, spherical aberration, field curvature, edge halation, and flare can be modified to provide sets of “curated” optics tailored to the owner’s unique personality and artistic vision.

While BLACKWING7 primes draw design cues from optics produced during the 1930s to 1960s, their real inspiration comes from the evolutionary nature of experimental music and audio synthesis. The process of creating distortion through sound amplification inspired the concept of tuning each BLACKWING7 lens, similar to how EQ adjustments are used in music production to control tonality.

The resulting images produced by TRIBE7 BLACKWING7 PRIMES FULL FRAME lenses have a musical fidelity, with each focal length possessing a distinct level of distortion that can be controlled to produce unique artistic resonances, including distinctive flaring characteristics.

TRIBE7 has created ten sets of limited-edition BLACKWING7 BINARIES to introduce the film making community to the concept of merging audio and imaging. These BINARIES are named in recognition of the fact that creative imaging is not a black or white process and that filmmakers require a wide choice of optics to serve their storytelling needs. BLACKWING7 BINARIES have been widely used in commercials, music videos, TV, and feature productions, with feedback contributing to the production tuning of the BLACKWING7 prime lenses.

Minolta Rokkor Lenses “Rokkor” refers to Mt. Rokko which could be seen from the Minolta factory in Japan. In the late 60’s and all through the 70’s, Minolta made some of the best glass in the world under the Rokkor label. Unlike most manufacturers, Minolta was capable of producing its own glass elements and coatings.

Their reputation for innovation and quality was already firmly in place.The Rokkor line of lenses was one of the most complete sets on the market. The set consists of 11 focal lengths from 21mm to 200mm with an ultra wide. The well known 21mm f2.8, 58mm f1.2, and 85mm f1.7 are still coveted by photographers around the world.

The 100 f2 is an earlier design, but easily one of the best Rokkors ever. However, one of Minolta’s latest designs is the most special of them all. . . The incredible 135mm f2. Fifty years later the Minolta Rokkors are ready for the spotlight once again. This time in highly customized G.L. Optics Mark 5 cinema housings. When design, craftsmanship, and performance converge, a special product is born. These lenses are truly special.

The MasterBuilt Soft Flare Primes series were originally conceived as an answer for cinematographers that requested flare structure with softer edges and smoother contrast. The Soft Flare series present artists with more choices when shooting the MasterBuilt lenses. The new Soft Flare series have become a favorite among cinematographers.
