Each motor has its own built-in motor drive that communicates directly with the hand unit and hand grips. This negates the need to mount a separate MDR to your rig, allowing for a more compact camera setup and a quicker setup time. Simply set the motors and hand unit/hand grips to the same channel and you will have full control.

The motors allow for automatic calibration of the lens as well as manual calibration if you are using lenses that don’t have hard end stops at close focus and infinity.

The ARRI Wireless Compact Unit WCU-4 combines three axes of lens control with a lens data display in a compact and ergonomic housing. The WCU-4 for Mini system comes with 3 Cforce Mini Motors.

The MDR is controlled by the preexisting ARRI WCU-4 (Wireless Compact Unit) handset which features a touchscreen control, vibrating stop markers, 3-channel control, a backlit focus knob, lens data display on the screen, pre-marked focus rings, focus tracking, and full control over the camera (frame rate settings, shutter angle, exposure index, etc).

The L-Bus motor is ultra-thin, ultra-lightweight, and was designed with one thing in mind: flight. It features a daisy chain port so that additional motors can be added to the existing motor without the need for additional ports or long motor cable runs.

Three Axes – All Inclusive
The Wireless Compact Unit WCU-4 combines three axes of lens control with a lens data display in a compact and ergonomic housing. Weighing around 780 grams including battery, it’s one of the lightest hand units in its class, providing unrivaled comfort during a long working day.

ALEXA Remote Control
An optional software license will enable you to remote control ALEXA Mini, all ALEXA cameras including the Plus Module (except the ALEXA HD Plus) and AMIRA when combined with the Universal Motor Controller UMC-4. This includes setting frame rate, shutter angle, exposure index, false color on the monitor output, and more. Extended camera status information is also available, allowing you to quickly check your camera settings at any time.

Vibrating Markers
Tactile vibrating feedback lets you keep your eye on the action in the most challenging situations. Operators can concentrate on the scene, knowing that the hand unit will vibrate to prompt them when focus markers are reached.

The Preston 2 Channel Lens Control system, complete with Preston MDR-4 and (2) DM-1x motors, offers a built-in antenna, two sets of 30 channels, plus a reset button. The MDR-4 also provides a serial connector for LR2 & Cinetape, with no interface units required, and an analog connector for Canon and Fujinon video-style lens controls or for Microforce/broadcast zoom controls. 

Thirty channels (0-29) selected by up/down buttons are split into two sets. The first includes the spread-spectrum coding used in the MDR3. 

The Preston DM1X Digital Motor is compatible with Preston MDR-4 motor drivers, the Digital Micro Force and the single-channel Video Lens Control. The motor housing is machined from a solid bar of Magnesium alloy and is coated with a special ceramic before painting for resistance to salt spray and moisture. The DM-1X features gears coated with Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) to provide toughness and efficiency.

The motor can be mounted to a variety of swing-arm brackets with conventional 15mm rods or directly mounted to matte box support rods with the Integral Motor Mount (sold separately).

The Preston MDR-4 improves upon Preston’s MDR-3 potential to provide lightweight wireless connectivity to your gimbal, drone or small camera configurations. The unit is designed to interact with lens control systems like the Preston FI+Z hand units and the LR2 Light Ranger. The MDR-4 device offers a built-in antenna (unlike the MDR-3 which attaches to the exterior), two sets of 30 channels, plus a reset button. It also provides a serial connector for LR2 & Cinetape, with no interface units required, and an analog connector for Canon and Fujinon video-style lens controls or for Microforce/broadcast zoom controls.

There are a few helpful devices which allow you to keep an eye on specific statuses with a glance. Simple push buttons facilitate a switch in motor direction while an LED on/off light indicates which direction is in use. Also, a tri-color LED provides status on the torque level which can be modified via switches near the LEMO connectors.

Power the MDR-4 via an 11-32 VDC power connector or with an R/S camera connector (ARRI, RED, Sony, and more) as an alternate.

Use the Wooden Camera MDR4 Mount accessory to attach your Preston MDR-4 to a RED or ARRI camera.
